About Sue Johnson
Passionate, Proven, Professor, Parent
Sue Johnson has lived in Frederick County since 1996. She is a respected and committed professor of Computer and Information Science at Frederick Community College where she has taught over 3,000 students over the course of 23 years. She has held numerous leadership positions including Chair of the Faculty Association, College-wide Senate Officer, Curriculum, General Education, Faculty Professional Development Coordinator, Crisis Management Response Team Leader and more.
Sue is married to Ed Johnson, a retired Captain of Fire Operations at Dulles and Washington National Airports. Ed has been a Chief or officer in the Frederick County Volunteer Fire Service for over 40 years. Through Ed, Sue also became a volunteer Firefighter, EMT, and Swiftwater Rescue Technician where she has been serving the community for over a decade on over 1,000 emergency calls for the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company and Carroll Manor Fire Company.
Sue and Ed live on their crop and livestock farm with their nine year old son Matt, an FCPS 3rd grader, and friend Tom (who is family). Ed's three grown children all live nearby and Sue's six step-grandchildren all attend Frederick County Public Schools.
The whole family is service oriented and are active in the Jefferson Ruritan Club. Sue is also on the Board of Directors of the Brunswick Little League where, as League Safety Officer, she helped write the League's Return to Play Plan for COVID-19. The plan was approved by the Maryland District 2 and Little League Eastern Region office so now she can be found managing, coaching and umpiring her favorite sport again!
With her background in and passion for education Sue is ready to help Frederick County offer excellence in public education as a member of the Board of Education.
